In reality, success is not the treasure that lies at the end of a long, hard road; it is the accomplishments that you attain along your journey.

As Mrs. Black Texas, I can truly say that my "Queens Journey" is paved with accomplishments!  I am now connected with two wonderful organizations that fights the spread of AIDS/HIV and I have met several inspiring people, adults and children, along the way.  My success is not measured by the attainment of a crown but by the lives that I personally touch along the way.  The journey is what you make it!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!

I wish my "hubby" a very Happy Father's Day!!

He is the ROCK of our family!!

A TEXAS CELEBRATION! - HAPPY JUNETEENTH!

 © JUNETEENTH.com

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States.  Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation - which had become official January 1, 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation had little impact on the Texans due to the minimal number of Union troops to enforce the new Executive Order. However, with the surrender of General Lee in April of 1865, and the arrival of General Granger’s regiment, the forces were finally strong enough to influence and overcome the resistance.
Later attempts to explain this two and a half year delay in the receipt of this important news have yielded several versions that have been handed down through the years. Often told is the story of a messenger who was murdered on his way to Texas with the news of freedom. Another, is that the news was deliberately withheld by the enslavers to maintain the labor force on the plantations. And still another, is that federal troops actually waited for the slave owners to reap the benefits of one last cotton harvest before going to Texas to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation. All of which, or neither of these version could be true. Certainly, for some, President Lincoln's authority over the rebellious states was in question   For whatever the reasons, conditions in Texas remained status quo well beyond what was statutory.

Great Day to Support the Stop-Teen Pregnancy Movement!

Wow!! What a great program sponsored by the Girls Living Life on Purpose Organization!  Many young ladies, and their moms, were part of the workshop today to focus on teen pregnancy.  There was a great presentation on STD's and AIDS/HIV given by the Dallas County Health Services - Miss Connie did an awesome job and everyone appreciated the very important information.  We all learned a few things :-)

Thanks to my future Teens to Queens - I will see you soon!!

Baby Bottle Project - GREAT CAUSE!

Today was the DAY!  Besides being Mother's Day - which is a special honor, it was also the day to turn in the baby bottle.   The What? you ask.

I took on the Family Care Pregancy Centers challenge to take a bottle and fill it with money to support the centers cause of taking care of all babies - both born and unborn.  The center makes sure that all the young ladies know the options that are available and let's them know that they are loved - by the church and by GOD.

The turn out was grand and the cause is always worthy.  How did you make a difference today?

Happy Mother's Day!

Wishing each and every mother a wonderful and blessed day!

Mother's Love Her love is like
an island in life's ocean,
vast and wide
A peaceful, quiet shelter
From the wind, the rain, the tide.
'Tis bound on the north by Hope,
By Patience on the West,
By tender Counsel on the South
And on the East by Rest.
Above it like a beacon light
Shine Faith, and Truth, and Prayer;
And thro' the changing scenes of life
I find a haven there.
